NASB:
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your father who is in heaven.
NIV:
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.
Observations:
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus was teaching about how his followers are to interact with the world around them. He uses the parable of salt and light, saying we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
In verse 16, he explains how we are to use our light.
Letting our light shine before men is not just doing good things, but doing everything we do to the glory of the Lord. Then, the world will be forced to acknowledge our King.
Takeaways:
Let our light shine before men. Obey the Lord. Do the things he has commanded in his word.
But as we obey the Lord, we need to do so by giving constant glory to our heavenly father. It is not to our glory that we obey God but to his, so that others will see our deeds and glorify him.
