Scripture in 60: I Corinthians 3:16

New American Standard Bible:

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

New Living Translation:

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

New King James Version:

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

New International Version:

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

Amplified Bible:

Do you not know and understand that you [the church] are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells [permanently] in you [collectively and individually]?

Context:

Paul writes to the Corinthians about the church in this chapter and explains to them that they themselves are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Heretofore, the temple where God dwelled had only been a physical place.

Observations:

We as a collection of believers are the temple where God dwells here on earth. He no longer needs a physical building or tent.

As a result, the Spirit of God is in our very beings.

Application:

We don’t worship objects. We don’t need trinkets to be holy. We no longer need the Holy of Holies. There is no incense or potion. Our faith is purely based on the Spirit of God dwelling in us as a collection of believers.

Since we have the Spirit of God in our very bodies and beings, it is incumbent upon us to take care of ourselves as if we are the temple of God.
