New American Standard Bible:
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
New Living Translation:
And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
New King James Version:
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
New International Version:
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Amplified Bible:
So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Context:
In Luke 11, Jesus teaches his disciples about prayer. Verse nine follows a parable about persistence in prayer. You can observe the hinge in his teaching with the phrase, “So I say to you.”
Observations:
If we ask in prayer, it will be given to us. If we seek in prayer, we will find it. If we knock on the door in prayer, the door will be opened to us.
The NLT phrases it as “keep on” asking, seeking and knocking.
Application:
Never, ever give up in prayer. We have been given the ability to come boldly before the throne of Almighty God and ask him for what we need. Through the blood of Jesus, we have this opportunity. So let us pursue him with all diligence.
