Scripture in 60: John 14:13

New American Standard Bible:

Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

New Living Translation:

You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.

New King James Version:

And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

New International Version:

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Amplified Bible:

And I will do whatever you ask in My name [as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son.

Context:

John 14 is a passage in which Jesus is teaching about his relationship to the Father and that he is the way to the Father. In verse 13, he addresses prayer requests.

Observations:

When we pray, we can ask anything (“whatever”) in the name of Jesus, and if we do, he will do what we ask.

He does this so that the Father might be glorified in the Son.

Application:

We need to make our prayers in Jesus’ name and according to the will of Jesus. We are guaranteed by his own words that he will do what is prayed in order to bring glory to the Father through him. If Jesus did things on earth so that the Father might be glorified, then we ought to ensure that the things we do are to bring glory to God.
