New American Standard Bible:
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear.
New Living Translation:
Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.
New King James Version:
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.
New International Version:
Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.
Amplified Bible:
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save, nor His ear so impaired that it cannot hear.
Context:
Isaiah chapter 59 is a divinely-inspired word from the prophet about the sin, confession and eventual redemption of the land of Israel. It is also a picture of what Christ was going to do for us.
Observations:
The arm of the Lord is not short or weak, and since it is strong and mighty, he can by his power save us.
Not only can the Lord save us by the mighty power of his long arm, he can hear us with his ear, which is never deaf.
Application:
As humans, our arms are only so long; our strength is limited; our ears can only hear so much and eventually become deaf.
Not so with our God. There is no limit to his power and ability to save us, and there is no time at which he cannot hear with his ear.
