LISTEN
New American Standard Bible:
Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
New Living Translation:
Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
New King James Version:
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
New International Version:
Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
Amplified Bible:
Let us approach [God] with a true and sincere heart in unqualified assurance of faith, having had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Context:
In chapter ten, the author of Hebrews explains how the old way of approaching God has been rendered null and a new, bolder approach had been granted through the death of Jesus.
Observations:
We have the ability to draw near to God on our own; or as the NLT puts it, we can go right into the presence of God.
What is needed when we approach the throne? A sincere heart, fully trusting in him. Only faith can bring such an assurance. We have our hearts sprinkled with the blood Christ shed, and that takes away all of our guilt. Our bodies are washed with pure water.
Application:
Our opportunity is to approach the throne of God almighty and draw near to him. Our task when doing so is preparing our hearts with sincerity and trust. We cleanse ourselves with the purest water and with the blood of Christ.
