LISTEN
NASB:
And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea’; and it would obey you.”
NIV:
He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to the mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”
Observations:
In Jesus’ teaching about faith, he demonstrates how a small amount of faith can accomplish incomprehensible things.
The average mustard seed is about 1-2 millimeters in diameter (or a 20th of an inch), so it’s very small.
But if we have faith even that small, we can command a tree to be uprooted and planted in the sea. And it would obey us.
Takeaways:
Have faith. We know that faith comes by hearing the word, so we must constantly be increasing in faith.
Comprehend the incomprehensible. We would never think that we could do something as seemingly illogical as commanding a tree to plant itself in the sea. But if we do so with faith, it will be done.
Think of the spiritual and kingdom things that can be accomplished with such faith.
