NASB:
But now faith, hope, love abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
NIV:
And now these three remain: Faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Observations:
As the apostle Paul wraps up a beautiful chapter on love, he identifies three virtues of the Christian life.
We are to have faith.
We are to hope.
We are to love.
Love is the greatest of those three virtues.
These three work in tandem with each other. We have faith that leads to hope that results in love.
Takeaways:
It is clear that Paul, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, is indicating that love is to be elevated higher than any other spiritual virtue.
As Christians, we are called to have faith in Jesus Christ; we are called to hope in our eternal future; but most of all, we are called to love God with all our heart and those around us.
