NASB:
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?
NIV:
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the royal position for such a time as this?
Observations:
The Jewish people needed relief from the coming persecution that was to take place by the hand of Haman. Queen Esther’s uncle Mordecai was trying to persuade her to act on behalf of her people.
We see the sovereignty of God’s ultimate plan by his affirmation that deliverance for the Jews would arise, whether by Esther or someone else.
But Mordecai warned that if Esther allowed help to arise from another source, she and her family would perish.
Mordecai then suggests that God placed her in her position of royalty for that moment to accomplish that task.
Takeaways:
Know that God’s will is going to be accomplished, whether through us or someone else.
Pay attention to where we have been placed. Where has God put you at such a time as this? It may not be to save a nation, but nothing is insignificant in his kingdom.
