NASB:
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
NIV:
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
Observations:
If you’ve never studied the High Priestly Prayer, I encourage you to take time to observe the majestic nature of what Jesus said to his Father in John 17.
The prayer is broken down into three sections — Jesus praying for himself, Jesus praying for his disciples and Jesus praying for all believers.
This verse comes in the midst of his praying for his disciples, and it declares that God’s word is truth. Period. End of story. His word is the one and only truth.
Further, it shows that we are sanctified by his word, which is the truth, and that sanctification comes from God.
Takeaways:
Pray to the Father as Jesus did in John 17. He left that as an example for us.
Be sanctified by the truth of God’s word. The more we study and meditate on his word, the more it will become who we are.
