Patriot’s Report:
The charade needs to stop
Story: According to a report by the Houston Chronicle, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told members of her caucus that she is not interested in pursuing impeachment charges and proceedings against President Trump. This is after leading Democrats have echoed Pelosi’s sentiments in the media, suggesting that going through impeachment would divide their party.
Patriot’s Pen: If House Democrats felt that they had anything legitimate on the president, they would proceed with impeachment. But clearly they don’t, so they aren’t. As a result, they should stop the ridiculous political theatre, such as Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-New York) threatening Attorney General William Barr. The Mueller investigation shelled out millions of taxpayer dollars and was years in the making. The proper investigators are looking into the origins and reasons for the inception of the investigation into the Trump campaign. But it’s time for lawmakers to do what lawmakers were sent to Washington to do.
Don’t tell other states what to do
Story: Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York), who is the minority leader in the U.S. Senate, took to the floor on Wednesday night to call out the state of Alabama for passing a law making abortion illegal. He called the bill “inhumane” and said it should have never been passed nor signed into law. (via Sen. Chuck Schumer)
Patriot’s Pen: Sen. Schumer does not represent the people of Alabama. If he wants to go on television and offer punditry about the bill, that’s one thing. But to speak from the Senate floor calling out lawmakers for doing what they believe is right for their state, which is hundreds of miles from his home state, is unnecessary. In Schumer’s state, the state legislature applauded a bill that allows for the killing of live infants. Why should Alabama residents be concerned about his condemnation? And why is he wasting valuable words of the Senate record on something that does not concern him?
