Pelosi doesn’t explain her ‘constitutional crisis’ claim
Story: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) said she agrees with House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-New York) that the United States is currently facing a “constitutional crisis” after his committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress. (via The Hill)
Patriot’s Pen: Without explaining her reasoning, the speaker of the House of Representatives is making the extremely serious claim that the nation is in a state of crisis and that the Trump administration is not honoring its oath of office. Just as President Trump should be taken to task for reckless rhetoric, the speaker should be held accountable and pressed on why she is making this assertion. If she truly believes it, why is she refusing to move forward with impeachment?
Illegal immigrant arrests at the border reach highest level in 12 years
Story: There were more than 109,000 illegal immigrant arrests in and around the U.S. southern border during the month of April. That is a six-percent increase from March and the highest number since 2007. (via the Washington Post)
Patriot’s Pen: This is a national emergency and a public health crisis. In addition to crime and terrorism potentially brought in by unvetted persons crossing the border, there is also the threat of diseases spreading. Border security is a major reason why President Trump was elected, and stories like this demonstrate the urgency of his administration’s need to take action.
The U.N. shows its blatant hypocrisy on women’s rights
Story: The United Nations put Somalia on its U.N. Commission on the Status of Women, and it put Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, Nigeria and Sierra Leone on the U.N. Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment for Women. The U.N,’s own website acknowledges the way several of those nations have allowed the brutal mistreatment of women. (via Townhall)
Patriot’s Pen: This is yet another example of how the U.N. is not a protector of human rights, particularly women’s rights. The way women are treated in some of these nations is repulsive, yet the supposed security apparatus of the world props them up.
