NASB:
“But the word of the LORD endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you.
NIV:
“But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
Observations:
Peter concludes the first chapter of his first letter with a reminder about the impregnability of the word of God. He references Old Testament prophecy from Isaiah to make his point.
He uses Isaiah’s words, “The word of the Lord endures forever.”
He then adds his affirmation to the prophecy with the reminder that all of God’s word matters.
Takeaways:
Every bit of scripture is God-breathed and is useful. We should not disregard the words of the Old Testament, even though the covenantal requirements were changed by Jesus.
God’s word endures forever. It will not be shaken by any events of this world.
Hear the word of the Lord preached. God intended for his word to be taught to his people by Bible-believing, gospel-espousing preachers who make his word known in an expository way.
