NASB:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
NIV:
Now faith is the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Observations:
Hebrews 11 is known as the Hall of Faith because it describes the great Old Testament examples of faith. In the initial verse of the chapter, the author gives God’s definition of what faith is.
Faith is confidence in or assurance of what we hope for. This word hope means eternal treasure, what the Lord has promised us as our reward with him.
Faith is also the conviction or assurance of things not seen. We cannot see our Lord as we live our lives, but we do not doubt his presence. That is faith.
Takeaways:
Understand what faith is. It is the hope of Jesus and eternal salvation, as well as the surety that we have currently have received our hope, even though we can’t see it with our eyes.
Live by faith. Have certainty about where we are going, who our guide is and live by his leadership, not what we see.
