Scripture in 60: Colossians 3:16

NASB:

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

NIV:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Observations:

In his letter to the Colossians, the apostle Paul stresses the importance and utility of God’s word. In this verse, he gives us seven imperatives, two of which are ways to use his word.

His word has the ability to dwell within us in a rich way.

There is wisdom found in his word, and that wisdom is useful for teaching and admonishing.

As we absorb his word, we have thanksgiving in our hearts and sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Takeaways:

Let the word dwell in us richly. Read it. Study it. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Make it part of the air we breathe.

Use the wisdom found in the word to teach and appropriately admonish others.

Be thankful that God has given us his word, and as part of our act of gratitude, sing to him.
