NASB:
The LORD your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, he will be quiet in his love, he will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.
NIV:
The LORD your God is with you, the mighty warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
Observations:
During the reign on king Josiah, the prophet Zephaniah wrote to the people of Judah about what the future held for Israel. In chapter three, verse 17, he tells them about God.
This was before the coming of Christ and the Holy Spirit, so he reminded them that God was with them and in their midst.
He describes God as a mighty, victorious warrior who saves his people.
Not only does he save his people, he takes great delight in them.
While they could have been destroyed by God because of their sins, he was quiet because of his love toward them.
Instead, he rejoiced over his people with shouts of joy.
Takeaways:
We have a loving God, who has saved us.
He takes great delight in us. And while he disciplines us, he does so in a quiet, loving manner.
Our God rejoices over us with singing, so let us return to him songs of praise.
