NASB:
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
NIV:
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Observations:
In chapter 12, the author of Hebrews describes who God is in relation to us, his creation, and why he sent his only Son to earth.
He created faith. The NIV says he is the “pioneer” of faith; it was his concept and creation. Not only that, he perfected faith.
He endured the cross, and as he did, he despised its shame. After enduring the cross, he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Takeaways:
Fix our eyes on Jesus. He should have our undivided attention. Spend time absorbing his word and communing with him in prayer.
Remember that the faith we have in Jesus was authored by him and perfected by him.
Not only that, but he went to die on the cross despising the shame of it, so that we could have eternal life. And now he sits at the right hand of God.
