Scripture in 60: Psalm 46:1

NASB:

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

NIV:

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Observations:

In this Psalm, David is acknowledging the Lord God as the one who sees him through times of peril.

He gives three attributes of God for our lives — God as our refuge, God as our strength and God as our help in all times of trouble.

Takeaways:

God is our refuge. When there is a rainstorm, we use shelter. We should use God in the same way.

God is our strength. He is the source of our power. We should lean on him, not our own ability.

When times of peril come, and they will, lean upon God. Notice he says God is an “ever-present” (NIV) help in times of trouble. That means he’s always there.
