NASB:
With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.
NIV:
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Observations:
Paul exhorts the Ephesians to be a praying people. Prayer is a crucial part of our walk with Christ.
Here he tells us to persevere in prayer. Part of that perseverance is praying in the Spirit, which is a deep communion with the heart of God.
Through prayer, we have been given the opportunity to offer petitions to God at all times.
Part of our prayer life is being alert and praying for fellow Christians.
Takeaways:
Christians need to be serious about prayer. To understand how we should pray, look to the life of Jesus when he was on earth.
We need to pray at all times and not limit what we bring to the Father. He says “all kinds” of prayers and requests.
If we become discouraged in prayer, we need to persevere.
We also need to be alert and bear the burdens of our brothers in Christ.
