NASB:
IF we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
NIV:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Observations:
John gives several attributes about God in this verse. He is faithful. He is just. As the NASB phrases it, he is righteous.
God is willing to forgive our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness if we will confess them.
He doesn’t just take away some of our unrighteousness, he purifies all of us.
Takeaways:
Confess our sins. Go to the father, tell him how we have sinned and repent of our sin before him.
After we have confessed, let’s live in the assurance and hope that comes from knowing a faithful, just and righteous God.
And, we need to celebrate and praise him for cleansing all of our impurities from us.
