NASB:
So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.
NIV:
So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
Observations:
This is after Elijah had prayed to God for the defeat of Baal in front of Ahab, and God had delivered a resounding victory. Jezebel then threatened Elijah, so he fled into the wilderness, where he became hungry.
An angel of the Lord came to Elijah, told him to get up and eat, and the food that the Lord provided him sustained him for forty days and nights on his journey.
Takeaways:
Our God is a God who provides. We need to see his provision for our lives, and then we need to consume what he has provided for us.
If we eat the food that the Lord has provided for us, we will be sustained far beyond our ability to comprehend.
We tend to think in just human terms. We eat a meal, and that’s enough for a few hours. But with God, provision is eternal. Let’s eat the food that he has prepared in our lives.
