NASB:
But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head. I was crying to the LORD with my voice, and he answered me from his holy mountain.
NIV:
But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head, to the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.
Observations:
The third Psalm is a prayer that David made to God as he was fleeing from his son, Absalom, who had taken over the kingdom.
He lists four attributes that show the Lord’s mercy and love for us — he is a shield around us, he is our glory, he is the one who lifts our head, and he answers us from his holy mountain.
David was clearly in a state of lament when he wrote this, saying, “I cry aloud.”
Takeaways:
We need to allow the Lord to be our shield; he wants to be.
We need to allow the Lord to be our glory; he wants to be.
We need to allow the Lord to lift our head; he wants to and he will.
We need to cry aloud to the Lord in times of distress; he wants to answer us from his holy mountain.
