Scripture in 60: I Thessalonians 4:3-4

NASB:

For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.

NIV:

It is God’s will that you should be sanctified; that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable.

Observations:

Paul is writing to the Thessalonians about pleasing God and sanctification. He wants us to understand God’s will.

God’s will is for us to be sanctified, which is the purification process by which we are made holy by God’s Spirit.

Part of our sanctification process is avoiding sexual immorality, and we do this through learning to control our own bodies in ways that are holy and honorable.

Takeaways:

We need to be sanctified, made holy by the Spirit of God.

One way we can become sanctified is to avoid sexual immorality and sexual sin. We are given the blueprint on how to do this — learn. We learn how to control our own bodies and do so in holy and honorable ways.
