NASB:
Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
NIV:
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
Observations:
We are to flee from sexual immorality.
All sins other than sexual sins are committed outside of our bodies.
Sexual immorality is a sin committed against our own bodies.
Takeaways:
Paul starts this verse by simply urging us to flee from sexual immorality. This is a plain and simple directive about how to respond to sexual temptation.
He then describes why we should flee, and it is because of our bodies. All of the other sins that are committed are outside of our bodies, but sexual sin is against our own body. This precedes verse 19 in which he calls the body the temple of the Holy Spirit.
So let us flee from immorality and sexual sin.
