Scripture in 60: Ephesians 5:18

NASB:

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.

NIV:

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Observations:

We are not to get drunk with wine.

Getting drunk with wine is dissipation and leads to debauchery.

Instead of getting drunk with wine, we are to be filled with the Spirit.

Takeaways:

Paul is writing about how we are to fill our lives, and he says we should not be drunk on wine, which can also be interpreted as meaning the sensual pleasures of life.

Getting drunk on the things of life is dissipation and leads to debauchery.

The antidote to being drunk on the world is to be filled with God’s Spirit, and that is what we are commanded to do — be being filled with the Spirit.
