NIV:
No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Observations:
A servant cannot serve two masters.
If we try to serve two masters, we will end up loving and being devoted to one and hating and despising the other.
We cannot serve both God and wealth or money.
Takeaways:
Jesus is teaching about the importance of serving no other gods or idols apart from our heavenly Father.
He says it is impossible for us to serve two masters. If we were to try to serve two masters, we would love one and hate the other.
He finishes by stating that God and wealth cannot both be served. Jesus is warning that as we go through our lives and face many distractions and potential idols, there is none more problematic than being in bondage to wealth, increase and money.
