Scripture in 60: Proverbs 3:7

NASB:

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.

NIV:

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.

Observations:

While we are to be wise, we are not to be wise in our own eyes.

We are to fear the Lord.

We are to shun evil.

Takeaways:

Proverbs is known as the book of wisdom, and one of the biggest pieces of wisdom is for us not to be wise in our own eyes.

How do we tell the difference between being truly wise and being wise in our own estimation?

The second part of the verse tells us that we should fear the Lord and shun evil. The book of Proverbs is replete with the refrain that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Our answer is to avoid evil at all costs and fear nothing but the Lord.
