“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
Observations:
Jesus was teaching the disciples how to love.
There is no greater love than someone laying down his life for his friends.
Takeaways:
This is in the midst of Jesus teaching his disciples about love, both how to love the world and how to love each other.
In the prior verse (12), he told them to love each other as he had loved them, then he tells hem that there is no greater love than giving up your life for someone else.
This is particularly poignant because Jesus is going to give up his life for them and or the rest of humanity.
In the next verse, he says “you are my friends.”
