NASB:
These things I have spoken to you, so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.
NIV:
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
Observations:
Jesus’ teaching that He left us is so that IN Him we may have peace.
Peace is to be found in Jesus and listening to His teaching.
There will be trouble in the world.
We can take heart.
Jesus has overcome the world.
Takeaways:
True and lasting peace can only be found in Jesus and dwelling on the words He left us.
There is no ambiguity about the fact that while we are on earth, we will experience trouble and tribulation.
But we are to take heart or courage. The NIV puts an exclamation point at the end of this sentence.
Why are we to take courage? Because Jesus has overcome the world.
