NASB:

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

NIV:

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Observations:

There is no fear in love

Perfect love is the antithesis of fear

Perfect love removes fear

Fear involves punishment

The one who fears is not made perfect in love

Takeaways:

While we tend to think courage is the antidote to fear, Scripture tells us that it is actually perfect love.

Perfect love is love of God, and it is received by us through the Spirit of God.

If we are filled with God’s spirit, our love is perfected and thereby fear is driven out from us.
